Neurodivergence refers to people who think, learn, and experience the world differently from the majority.

Neurodivergence

Individuals who think, learn, and perceive the world differently due to the unique organisation of their brains are neurodivergent.

Advocating for neurodiversity means recognising and respecting these variations as inherent qualities of humanity. These differences bring valuable strengths and fresh perspectives that enrich our world.

  • Neurodivergent children are often expected to conform to educational models that do not align with their learning styles.

  • A lack of acceptance and understanding of their needs can lead to lowered self-esteem, diminished self-confidence, and a decline in overall well-being.

  • Consequently, neurodivergent children frequently experience underachievement and undue pressure to succeed against the odds.

  • Neurodivergent individuals frequently encounter significant challenges in the workplace.

  • These can include difficulties with traditional job interviews, non-accommodating workplace environments, and a lack of understanding from employers.

  • Such barriers can prevent neurodivergent adults from fully utilising their unique talents and contributing to their full potential.

While everyone’s brain and potential are distinct, the majority of people share a similar neurological makeup, often simplistically presented as 'normal' or 'healthy' brain development.

This is the natural variations in how people process information and experiences, including expressions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. It is is a natural and purposeful aspect of human diversity, not an accident of nature or a disorder.

Be yourself!

  • Traditional assessment methods tend to be too limited to fully capture expressions of neurodivergence.

  • Cultural assumptions may lead to incorrect outcomes, particularly in educational settings.

  • Labelled conditions rarely occur in isolation: most neurodivergent individuals experience overlapping traits.
